Make a Difference Monday

Trying to find my HUMMINGBIRD living in this vulture world!!

Today's Make a Difference Monday is over Toxic Thoughts.
What is this you might ask??

Toxic - anything containing poisonous material capable of causing sickness or even death.

I am guilty of having toxic thoughts. Are you?

*Negative - "It is way to hot to get up this early to go to work."
*Fearful - always worrying if my Nanny is okay or not
*Discontented - "Lord, don't you know my timing is better!!"
*Critical - "Oh my gosh. What would possess her to wear that?"

Now, those are just a few examples - Lord knows that list could go on & on!

It's the thought that counts.
Literally!!! When we think negatively or with fear we are going to BE negative or fearful.
God tells us, "Carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source or true life." ~Proverbs 4:23
We must replace toxic thoughts with God's Truth.

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing, and perfect will." ~ Romans 12:2

Now what does that silly introduction mean?
Listen to this sweet analogy my pastor said at Church yesterday.

Hummingbirds & vultures are both birds that have very opposite characteristics. A hummingbird is quite small where a vulture is quite large. Each eat two completely different things. A hummingbird searches out sweet nectar while a vulture searches for dead things. Bottom line is both of those things, sweet & dead, are around them everyday. They each choose to eat on those things, to supply life to their bodies.
This is exactly how humans are. There are both positive and negative all around us. If you want to be negative, you can find something to be negative about. If you want to be positive, you can find something to be positive about. Therefore, find your hummingbird in this vulture world.

Together we can do it ~ I KNOW we can!

Please participate in Make a Difference Monday.
All you have to do is...

Make a Difference Monday: Week ONE

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all thins at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.!"

Generosity is so important. We live in a world that is so centered around me, me, me! What will make me more successful, what will make me richer, what will make me look better, etc… Sometimes it is so hard to give because you are worried you might come up short in the end. However, giving does not just include monetary goods. It can be your time, talent, home, etc…

I feel like I am very generous with my time. My nanny is 95 & is starting to need more help. I will go to the store with her or run errands that need to be done. I don’t mind giving my time to my nanny because she has done so much for me. It is my time to give back to her. I like to help people! I guess it is the teacher in me?!

What do you do that is generous?

Thanks for participating in the very first Make a Difference Monday! I

Make a Difference Monday

"There are many little way to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all!"

I think it is so, so important that children are read to and have the opportunity to read to someone. This week I want to challenge everyone to make a difference by reading to a child. I know not everyone has a child of their own BUT there are many children in this world. Think about the connection you have to teacher friends, your friends children or younger siblings.

Today the Book Fair was at OSU...talk about EXCITMENT! Some would say I went overboard but I like to say I am stocking up for my classroom library. I had a grand time looking through the illustrations and reading the different books to find the perfect ones for me. I could of bought every book there.

My favorite is 'Dear Deer' -- it is a book of homophones! I just LOVE it!!!!

Have a wonderful day!!!

Make a Difference Monday

I hope everyone had a great three day weekend. I drove back to Oklahoma today and actually enjoyed the car ride. I got back to town went to Hob Lob, Wal-Mart and ate dinner at Mexico Joe's with my roomies. We just spent the last two hours watching the Bachelor...who is Valishia anyways!?! ;)

"Give freely and become more wealthy, be stingy and become more poor."
~Proverbs 11:24

This week when you pull through the drive through to get a burger, coke, starbucks, etc... graciously pay for the car behind you. Simply tell the cashier you want to pay for the car behind you with your order. Just think how much that could make someone's day and who knows they could really need it?!

Make a Difference Monday

One of my New Year Goals is to volunteer more regularly so with that I thought I could do a "Make a Difference Monday" blog every Monday with different ideas to make a difference. It will be different every week - big, small, easy, hard, fun, not so fun, but all in all it will help make a difference!!! So drum roll please......da na na!!

Bringing Encouraging Words to a Discouraging World

This week make homemade cards to give to friends.
In this card include your favorite scripture or some pick me up words.
Everyone can always use some encouragement and it truly does make a difference in someone's day when they are refreshed and feel loved.
