Show us your life - Fav Charity

I follow Kelly's blog and each Friday she does a "Show Us Your Life" - It's really neat to read about other bloggers and it's an easy way to get connected to different people's blogs. This week is all about Charities and those you feel connected to, passionate about or support yourself.

This pink ribbon says it all. I am passionate about Breast Cancer and will make donations to Susan G. Komen until the day I die. Breast Cancer really touches a soft spot in my heart. My grandma, my mom's mom, was diagnosed with BC when I was in 8th grade. She went through chemo and radiation and was cancer-free! About 6 months later she fell and broke her arm and the cancer had spread to her bones. Before we knew it the cancer had taken over her entire body. My mom temporarily moved to Burleson to be with her mom and dad while my Grandma held on for her last few weeks. She passed away that June, just a few short months after the cancer was found in her bones. My Grandma was an angel on this earth and now she is my guardian angel. In fact, before she died she gave all the granddaughters a necklace of a guardian angel. With the necklace was a card, she told me how much she loved me and how she would always watch over me from Heaven. She told me how proud I made her and how I will continue to make her proud. At Grandma's funeral her sweet, sweet pastor of her church who also did her service gave the family "advice" that was previously told to him by Grandma. He told us to have COURAGE and this word has forever stuck in our family and it reminds us of Grandma each and every time we see it. I always buy little gadgets and trinkets with Courage written on it.

Grandma truly was an angel on this earth. She was a strong Christian woman who loved people with her entire heart. She was a nurse and brought comfort to so many people. Grandma was a very active volunteer at the Harvest House, a non-profit organization that hosted "Little Red School House" which is a program that gives needy families school supplies and back to school clothes and also "Angel Tree" which gives Christmas presents to families in need. My favorite memories with Grandma were helping her get everything ready for the children and families. 

I have a passion for BC and hope to walk in the Breast Cancer 3-Day. Momma and I both have a desire to do so one day. We are thankful each and every day for the time the Lord gave us Grandma, even though most days we wish she was here with us longer. My mom's heart aches for her mom and so does mine. Her legacy lives on in our hearts and that will last forever!
